Chapter 2 of Jennifer Williams’ book, “Teach Boldly: Using EdTech for Social Good,” highlights the importance of flexibility, creativity, and process in education. The author emphasizes the need for a focus on both the teacher’s and student’s interests and passions, and for a balance between depth of learning and speed of covering the syllabus.

The author introduces two innovative ways to use time in the classroom: Genius Hour (a concept inspired by Google’s practice), where students work on individualized passion projects for a dedicated period of time, and Virtual Exchange, where students connect with others in different locations using technology. The author also introduces the concept of “moonshots,” which aims to solve big problems with radical solutions and technology.
